Lilly Nguyen

Lilly is an undergraduate student at Brown University in the prestigious Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) MD ‘30 cohort concentrating in neuroscience. Raised in Vietnam, she is particularly interested in healthcare administration and reform and is eager to combine her passions for medicine and public policy.

Throughout high school, Lilly volunteered in the AdventHealth Orlando Neuro-ICU and had publications in numerous medical journals, leading her own independent research project in her senior year with UCF’s Kuebler Lab that earned second place at the Nelson Ying Science Expo and the Naval Academy’s Naval Research award. As a sophomore, Lilly was a finalist at the National Speech and Debate Association National tournament, claiming her spot as first in the nation.

At Brown, Lilly is working with Neurologist Dr. Rachit Patil at Hasbro Children’s Hospital to conduct both retrospective chart review and prospective studies elucidating the genetic dispositions of pediatric epilepsy and their longitudinal outcomes. She also shadows VA Cardiologist Dr. Aravind Kokkirala and completed a two week internship with Neurosurgeon Dr. Khoi Tran at the HCMC University of Medicine in Vietnam over the winter. In her spare time, Lilly loves to sew, and is a member of the Fashion@Brown design team.

In 9th grade, Lilly began tutoring for National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa, and soon began to offer private tutoring in math levels up to Pre-Calculus as well as SAT/ACT preparation and essay editing. Last cycle, two of Lilly’s students were accepted into PLME, Brown’s 8-year BS/MD program – the only of its kind in the Ivy League. Lilly loves helping students apply their unique repertoires to accomplish their academic goals and is eager to continue working with ambitious high schoolers.
