Pooja is an undergraduate student at Brown University pursuing a degree in public health as a part of Brown’s prestigious eight year Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME). Her goal at university is to delve deeper into combining her interests in public policy and medicine to eventually pursue a career that allows her to work in the field of health equity promotion.
Pooja has worked as a research intern in the von Ash lab, co-authoring a paper on how racial disparities affect sleep quality in adolescents. Her paper has been presented at the Society of Behavioral Medicine conference in 2022 and is currently undergoing publishing review. Pooja is deeply involved in her community at Brown as a member of Period Equity at Brown, Brown Badmaash Dance Company, and Brown Abhinaya. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and cooking new foods.
Previously, Pooja worked at Kumon where she taught students ages 5-16 math and english. Specifically, she has conducted lessons in basic number systems and the alphabet to calculus and analyzing Shakespearean literature. While in high school, Pooja scored a perfect 36 on the ACT and has used her test-taking strategies she mastered to privately tutor ACT math and english. Additionally, as a member of her high school's National Honors Society, she tutored underclassmen one-on-one in English, Precalculus, Biology, and Spanish. In terms of her teaching approach, Pooja is passionate about enlightening others on new concepts in a way that is engaging and fun. Instead of just merely explaining the solution to a question, she believes in constructing a thorough foundational understanding of the topic so that her students are able to recall the information taught not only for application in class but also later on.
