Tom Li

Tom is an undergraduate student at Brown University, studying Business Economics, Philosophy, and French and Francophone Studies on a pre-law track. His goal at university is to explore the intersections of the public and private sectors through an interdisciplinary perspective. He also aims to hone his critical thinking and collaborative skills in preparation for law school.

Since being at Brown, Tom has worked alongside newly-inaugurated U.S. House Representative Seth Magaziner, the former General Treasurer of Rhode Island, in his 2022 campaign for his current office. On campus, Tom is involved with Brown’s largest student newspaper: the Brown Daily Herald. At the BDH, Tom serves as both a copy editor and a member of the Editorial Page Board, publishing weekly opinions in the University’s newspaper. In his free time, Tom enjoys baking, reading, and listening to podcasts and music. 

Before his time at Brown, Tom was an intern at California Assembly member Rebecca Bauer-Kahan’s office, researching potential legislation, writing bill memos, and staffing constituent and stakeholder meetings. He has also completed a clinical internship with the Stanford University School of Medicine and worked at the biotechnology company Predicine.

Tom also has 4 years of experience at BayEdu and the American Elite Education Association as both a tutor and translator for Chinese international students in their applications to U.S. high schools. He has also worked as a math tutor at the Pleasanton Unified School District, collaborating alongside teachers to create lesson plans for students struggling in math courses. Tom has extensive experience with SAT and AP exams, taking numerous AP exams and earning multiple AP Scholar with Distinction awards. He is also a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship: awarded for his high SAT score, extracurricular activities, and personal essays.
