Michael is the founder of Barrett Academies Ivy League SAT/ACT/PSAT Prep and College Consulting. He is an undergraduate student at Brown University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology under a pre-med track alongside an entrepreneur certificate. His goal at university is to build himself a strong foundation centered around knowledge, interpersonal skills, and financial literacy to set himself up for life in medical school and beyond.
At Brown, Michael is a paid research assistant in the Lawler Lab that focuses on making brain tumors more susceptible to advanced immunotherapy treatments centered on the STING pathway. He also shadows Dr. Barth, a clinical oncologist in his free time, and is an active volunteer at the Rhode Island Free Clinic. Furthermore, he is the secretary of the Brown Society of Bioethics and Health Humanities and secretary of the Ivy League Pre Health Society, while helping get branches started at Harvard and Cornell.
Outside of school, he is the director of The Aim Project, a non profit organization designed to provide free standardized test prep to low-income and underrepresented students across the five boroughs in New York City. In addition, Michael has been a part of the workforce since he was 14. He started his first job at Kumon, where he taught children from grades K-12 in topics ranging from addition and reading to calculus and advanced literature. He continued this job until his senior year, when he found a new opportunity at Kweller Prep to prepare his students for the SHSAT. Last summer, his students saw on average a 200-point increase over the span of just five weeks, placing them at ranges that will grant them access to New York City’s most coveted specialized high schools, primarily Stuyvesant. In the same summer, Michael joined Dr. Li Zhang as a part of the Academic Collaboration for Excellence (ACE LLC) under the role of administrative assistant. During their first couple of months together, they published an ebook called “How to ACE your College Application: A Practical Guide”, for high school students looking for light at the end of the tunnel as they venture through the highly-complex college admissions process. Now, they focus on providing college guidance, essay editing, and application assistance to their students. At the same time, Michael tutors privately in trigonometry and chemistry.
